Position Overview

Reporting to the Operations Facilities Manager, the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor is tasked with overseeing teams of skilled trades personnel, assessing staffing needs, and managing electrical maintenance and facility operations. This role also includes the provision of temporary electrical services to support production activities. The Supervisor ensures that all tasks are executed in compliance with the company's safety, quality, and environmental protocols, policies, and procedures. Regular performance monitoring and management tasks are essential, including offering guidance and corrective actions, managing employee discipline, approving timesheets, reviewing leave requests, and ensuring adherence to the collective agreement for the team.

Key Responsibilities

Accountable for safety, cost, schedule, and quality outcomes within the designated area. Enforces Seaspan's Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality processes on the shop floor, actively working to eliminate safety risks. Ensures product delivery aligns with company and customer quality expectations. Allocates workforce based on scheduling and priorities, assigning tasks to trades employees with the necessary skills to complete work efficiently. Upholds the collective agreement and best practices for effective management of trades personnel. Responsible for disciplinary actions, including performance and attendance management, and may assign or revoke chargehand duties. Collaborates with Trade Development Managers to ensure trades employees possess the required skills, equipment, training, and certifications for planned tasks. Interprets work order specifications and manufacturing information, ensuring work orders are completed and staying updated on standards and material provisions. Assists in developing work plans, sequences, and schedules, and may aid in preparing estimates. Investigates workplace incidents and completes necessary Drug & Alcohol Checklists and testing. Manages timekeeping administration and approvals for direct and indirect reports. Ensures work crews minimize waste and avoid unnecessary delays in construction or repair tasks. Collaborates with management to identify and eliminate inefficient work practices, promoting continuous process improvement. Works with front-line supervision to set daily and weekly objectives, holding employees accountable for their performance. Provides internal reports on work processes and status to Area Managers and/or SOC Managers. Addresses technical trade issues with Trade Managers and implements identified solutions. Fosters a respectful and harassment-free work environment. Collaborates with Trade Development Managers, HSE, Quality, Human Resources, and Employee Relations teams as necessary. Exemplifies Seaspan's core values through leadership and actions. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Red Seal Electrician or a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. At least 5 years of relevant trades experience, in addition to any apprenticeship or educational programs. A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in a heavy industrial setting, preferably in a unionized environment. Comprehensive knowledge of trade responsibilities specific to heavy manufacturing, including welding, metal fabrication, electrical work, pipefitting, painting/sandblasting, mechanical work, and rigging. Strong written, verbal, and electronic communication skills. Excellent time management and organizational skills, demonstrating a commitment to follow-up and follow-through. Ability to inspire others, lead change, engage in difficult conversations, and administer discipline when necessary. Conflict resolution and negotiation skills to address disagreements swiftly and effectively, with a problem-solving mindset. Capacity to build effective working relationships and collaborate towards common goals. Commitment to safety and quality, with experience in behavioral-based safety practices. Understanding and appreciation of the value of diversity within a team. Proficiency in MS Office applications and web-based tools.
