Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as an Assistant Manager in Housekeeping
In this role, you will report directly to the Housekeeping Manager and play a pivotal role in the coordination and administration of various environmental services. This includes, but is not limited to, housekeeping, pest control, sanitation services, waste disposal, and wastewater management, along with overseeing staff at Qathet Hospital.
At VCH, maintaining a pristine clinical environment is crucial, extending from outpatient clinics to emergency and surgical departments. This position demands a comprehensive understanding of infection prevention, microbiology, evidence-based cleaning protocols, safety regulations, and the ability to manage multiple waste streams while ensuring consistent performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily housekeeping operations at Qathet Hospital, ensuring effective service delivery and optimal use of personnel and equipment.
- Contribute to the strategic planning of the department by identifying goals and objectives, providing feedback on service levels, and making recommendations to the Manager.
- Enhance service excellence by evaluating operations and implementing improvements in processes and equipment to boost productivity.
- Monitor personnel activities to ensure adherence to safety protocols established by the department and regulatory bodies.
- Supervise staff, manage schedules, approve leave requests, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Interpret and apply collective agreements while addressing employee grievances and issues confidentially.
- Assist in budget development and monitoring, providing insights into financial requirements and reviewing expenditures.
- Collaborate with the Manager to implement best practices and conduct research for operational planning and quality improvements.
- Support the development and monitoring of quality improvement initiatives to uphold service standards.
- Diagnose service level failures and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
- Assist in audit processes to ensure compliance with performance criteria.
- Compile data to create indicators that highlight issues and make recommendations for further support.
- Ensure compliance with established standards and policies in all operational areas.
- Participate in meetings and committees involving various stakeholders as directed by the Manager.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations, promptly reporting any unsafe conditions.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Diploma in Environmental Management, Business Administration, Hospitality, or a related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in housekeeping or environmental services within a hospital or similar institutional setting.
Knowledge & Skills
- In-depth knowledge of health facility support operations, including housekeeping, infection control, and cleaning practices.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, across various organizational levels.
- Familiarity with quality assurance systems and the ability to supervise in a unionized environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle customer service issues tactfully.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Proficient in prioritizing tasks and managing workloads under pressure.
- Physical capability to perform the duties associated with this position.
