Job Summary

The Wellness Strategist is a key leader in the development of mental health and harm reduction programming at Mount Allison University. This position plays a crucial role in guiding the development, implementation, and continuation of programming and outreach efforts to promote student wellness literacy, education, and awareness on campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development: Collaborate with Student Affairs staff to develop and advance sustainable educational outreach campaigns targeted at key areas of student need, based on related research support and analysis.
  • Committee Participation: Sit on committees or groups with mandates to support the wellbeing and/or safer substance use of students, such as the Student of Concern Case Team, Student Alcohol and Substance Use Committee, and committees dedicated to updating the Mental Health Strategy.
  • Programming and Training: Coordinate programming, strategic awareness campaigns, and training aimed at promoting mental wellbeing and safer substance use practices for students, in conjunction with key staff members.
  • Review and Recommendations: Review and make recommendations relating to the use of alcohol and substances on campus, in collaboration with the Alcohol and Substance Use Committee.
  • Evaluation and Feedback: Collect and review feedback and/or data to determine the effectiveness of ongoing projects and assess program efficacy.
  • Partnerships and Collaboration: Identify strategic external partners and work collaboratively with them and university stakeholders to facilitate partnerships that enhance effective student wellness service delivery, awareness, and promotion.
  • Institutional Strategies: Collaborate with other stakeholders to maintain and suggest updates to institutional mental health and wellness strategies and procedures on campus.
  • Peer Support and Resources: Develop, monitor, and lead trained peer supporters and mental health champions who will encourage positive mental health activities and promote self-care.
  • Workshop and Session Development: Create resources to deliver and/or coordinate the delivery of group sessions and workshops on a wide range of wellness and personal management topics to help students adjust to a successful University experience.
  • Resource and Support: Act as a resource on mental health, wellness, and harm reduction campaigns to student groups, faculty, and staff within the university community.
  • Reporting and Communication: Submit reports to the Director as required throughout the year on project activities and findings.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Education: Minimum of a university degree in a related discipline, such as Psychology, Social Work, Health Promotion, Addictions, Harm Reduction, etc.
  • Experience: 3 years experience or advanced diploma in the field of Mental Health, Health Promotion, Addictions, Harm Reduction or recognized equivalencies preferred.
  • Theoretical Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of current theories and practices related to mental health and harm reduction.
  • Program Management: Excellent program/project management and coordination skills, including the ability to track and evaluate program/project progress and success.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Initiative and Creativity: Demonstrated initiative and creativity, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of Student Needs: An understanding of the needs of post-secondary education-aged students.
  • Confidentiality: Ability to recognize the sensitivity of issues and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and online research skills.
