Power Engineer for Infrastructure

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Power Engineer to join our Infrastructure Engineering team at Telesat Canada. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, reviewing, and maintaining corporate electrical systems used at our earth stations and customer facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Design and Development: Design cost-effective electrical systems for satellite earth stations and other facilities, taking into account the company's infrastructure and operational requirements.
- Project Management: Work with project managers to ensure projects are satisfactorily completed and are on time and within budget, and in some instances, act as the project manager.
- Electrical System Evaluation: Evaluate existing electrical systems and recommend design modifications or equipment repairs where required.
- Power Systems Calculations: Prepare detailed power systems calculations to develop construction and installation standards and specifications.
- Manufacturing and Installation: Direct manufacturing, installing, and testing of electrical equipment to ensure that products meet specifications and codes.
- Reporting and Documentation: Prepare detailed reports to document electrical activities and to ensure smooth handover to the operations team.
- Customer Needs Analysis: Analyze customer needs and determine electrical system requirements, capacity, and costs to develop a system plan.
- Maintenance and Testing: Develop maintenance and testing procedures for electrical components and equipment.
- Customer Meetings: Attend and actively participate in customer meetings.
- Proposal Development: Prepare and present proposals to and review requirements directly with customers or internal stakeholders.
- Supplier and Contractor Management: Build and maintain relationships with electrical equipment suppliers and contractors.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of five years of related work experience in the Electrical power-engineering field.
- Registration: Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario or eligible for registration as a P.Eng in Ontario.
- Experience: Experience with testing and commissioning electrical systems and equipment in the field is an asset for this role.
- Knowledge: Excellent understanding of back-up power systems designs and equipment, such as generators, UPS systems, and DC power plants.
- Code Requirements: Strong understanding of building code and electrical code requirements.
- Engineering Best Practices: Detail-oriented with a firm grasp of engineering best practices pertaining to electrical system design and operations.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, technical writing ability, organizational skills, and the ability to work in a team environment.
- Language Skills: Ability to communicate in French (written and oral) is a strong asset.
- Software Skills: Experience with AutoCAD and other computer-aided design software is considered an asset.
- Travel Requirements: The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), and may be required to travel domestically and internationally.
