Job Summary

This role supports the development, planning, delivery, and evaluation of cultural and educational programming in the Centre de la Francophonie de UBC and the Department of French, Hispanic & Italian Studies. The position is funded in part by the Ministry of Education on behalf of Heritage Canada, with the aim of providing members of the Province's French-language minority with the opportunity to be educated in their own language and providing British Columbia residents with the opportunity to learn French as a second language.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain a network of contacts with community members to support student engagement activities.
  • Work with the Centre Director and Department Head to invite collaborations and facilitate interdepartmental collaboration and communications at UBC.
  • Responsible for communication content in French and English, updating the Centre website and social media, and keeping internal and external contacts abreast of initiatives.
  • Generate reports and pursue funding applications that further the mandates of the Centre and Department.
  • Liaise with UBC Careers, Arts Co-op, and employers to cultivate careers pathways that leverage FHIS language programs.
  • Manage initiatives that complement activities and timelines of the Centre, Department, and various levels of the University.
  • Plan, develop, and implement co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that enrich the FHIS student experience and support the mandate of the CDLF.
Requirements
  • University degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of two years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent oral and written French and English communication skills.
  • Diplomatic, inter-culturally sensitive, patient, and tactful communicator.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline and one year of related experience.
  • Experience navigating University rules and explaining procedures to students.
  • Experience with a diverse student population and work environment.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated judgment and decision-making skills.
