Analyst for Substance Use Research
Position Overview
The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is on the lookout for a dedicated full-time Research Analyst on a contract basis. This role involves working in collaboration with a team of researchers within the Ontario Node of the Canadian Research Initiative in Substance Misuse (CRISM). As one of the key Nodes across Canada, the Ontario CRISM Node (OCRINT) is committed to conducting research that informs and enhances interventions and systems for individuals who engage in substance use. The focus of this research includes prevention and treatment strategies for substance misuse, particularly concerning illicit drugs and the non-medical use of pharmaceutical substances, alongside the translation of relevant research findings.
The Research Analyst will play a crucial role in a comprehensive evaluation project aimed at assessing British Columbia's policy on the decriminalization of illicit substances for personal use. The responsibilities of the Research Analyst will encompass supporting various research activities, coordinating and managing meetings among stakeholders and working groups, and collaborating with the research team to facilitate knowledge exchange initiatives. Specifically, the Research Analyst will be tasked with:
- Reporting directly to the Decriminalization Evaluation Manager and the OCRINT Node Manager.
- Assisting OCRINT in managing subprojects related to the overarching evaluation initiative.
- Executing daily administrative tasks and research activities across multiple projects and teams.
- Conducting research on the decriminalization of illicit substances, including literature reviews and searches.
- Performing qualitative interviews and supporting qualitative analysis for subprojects, such as coding transcripts and identifying key themes.
- Carrying out quantitative analyses, including basic descriptive statistics and simple regression analyses.
- Drafting reports and publications based on sub-study findings, including academic manuscripts.
- Participating in knowledge translation activities, such as creating presentations and infographics.
- Facilitating collaboration among researchers, policymakers, service providers, and individuals with lived experiences of drug use.
- Organizing and engaging in meetings with stakeholders and research working groups.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in public health policy, drug policy, criminology, sociology, addiction studies, or a related field, along with a minimum of one year of research experience, preferably in substance use. Familiarity with addictions, drug policy, and the decriminalization of illicit substances is advantageous, as is experience working with individuals in academic, research, and community health service environments. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong research capabilities, particularly in qualitative research and interviewing techniques. Excellent writing skills are essential, evidenced by prior academic publications or reports. Proficiency with reference management tools such as EndNote is required, and knowledge of qualitative analysis software like NVivo is a plus. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are crucial for this role, which requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team setting. This position will primarily be conducted remotely.
