Senior Care Physician

Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver primary healthcare services both in-person and through virtual consultations.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, including LPNs, mental health professionals, and social workers.
- Participate in billing for both direct and indirect patient care.
- Engage in clinic and provider rounds as scheduled.
- Assist in data collection and documentation as required.
- Complete mandatory organizational training (e.g., responding to suspected opioid overdoses, facility orientations).
- Serve as a mentor for family medicine and public health residents, if desired, as The Alex is a recognized teaching site.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Active member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
- Possession of appropriate medical liability insurance (e.g., CMPA or equivalent).
- Affiliation with a Primary Care Network (PCN) or willingness to join.
- Specialized skills are encouraged (e.g., opiate agonist therapy, transgender medicine, IUD insertions, prenatal care, emergency care, mental health, sports medicine).
- Experience with vulnerable populations (e.g., homeless individuals, refugees, remote outreach) is advantageous.
- A strong commitment to advocating for and building relationships with seniors.
- Understanding of social determinants of health affecting marginalized groups.
- Proficiency in EMR systems and familiarity with Netcare is essential.
- Current CPR certification is required upon commencement.
- Clearance of a vulnerable sector criminal record and child welfare intervention check is mandatory.
- Knowledge of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action is beneficial.
- Willingness to engage in anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices and continuous learning.
Work Environment and Schedule:
- The Alex Seniors Health Centre operates with a flexible schedule of 0.4 FTE (7-hour shifts, 2 days per week), with the possibility of a 0.6 FTE arrangement.
- Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, with no evening or weekend shifts required.
- Minimum appointment durations are 30 minutes, with options for 60-minute appointments as necessary.
- Locum coverage will be arranged for any required time off.
- Our EMR system is transitioning to Telus' new Collaborative Health Records (CHR).
- Administrative support is available for managing patient panels and daily appointment flow, including bookings, confirmations, and referrals.
- Access to in-house specialists and allied health services, including but not limited to addiction medicine, dermatology, endocrinology, and mental health services.
