Job Title: Recreation Aid

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Recreation Aid to join our team at Extendicare Canada Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating recreational programs for our residents, promoting their physical, social, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement recreational programs that cater to the diverse needs and interests of our residents.
  • Conduct programs with assigned groups of residents, including large and small groups, and individual resident assignments.
  • Maintain accurate records of program attendance and participation.
  • Collaborate with other teams and individuals to ensure a comprehensive approach to resident care.
  • Recruit, screen, orientate, train, supervise, evaluate, and schedule volunteers in the home.
  • Coordinate volunteer recognition functions and maintain records of volunteer participation.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Extendicare's policies and procedures, as well as provincial regulations and laws.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary certificate in Therapeutic Recreation Facilitator for Older Adults (or equivalent).
  • Previous experience in recreation programming for the elderly is desirable.
  • Food Handlers Certificate is required.
  • Ability to read and write English, as well as understand verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness, creativity, sound judgment, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with those with responsive behaviors and death and dying.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Mentally and physically able to perform duties and maintain regular attendance.
  • Computer literacy is required.

Working Conditions:

This is a part-time position that requires flexibility and adaptability. The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling resident information.
