About the Role

The Safety Instrumented Systems Specialist will play a critical role in supporting process control and safeguarding functionality for safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the LNGC facilities in Commissioning and Start-up phases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support troubleshooting, maintaining, and continuous improvement of instrumented safety critical elements in the facility, including Fire & Gas (F&G) systems, Instrumented Protection Systems (IPS), and Burner Management Systems (BMS).
  • Develop strong working relationships within and outside the team to boost cooperation and a One Team approach.
  • Utilize flexible and incremental innovation thinking with well-developed problem-solving skills.
  • Support operations and other interfaces on safeguarding schemes whenever needed.
  • Support SIS activities such as online modifications, trip investigation & trouble shooting, alarm management support, and documentation support.
  • Support SIS Authorities in functional and detailed design, development, testing, safe, and smooth implementation of Management of Change (MOC) with process control and safeguarding scope as needed.
  • Proactively get involved in CSU and ramp-up related activities while being an active member of the Asset Delivery Team (ADT).
  • Provide high-quality support for process control and improvement of control and safeguarding systems for the LNGC and interfaces.
  • Deliver SIS aspects of LNGC in accordance with project HSE, technical standards, quality standards, and procedures as defined in the Contract and Project Specification.
  • Optimize processes via various techniques to improve safety performance standards and maintain Safety Integrity Levels (SIL).
  • Review safeguarding content of plant modifications/changes as well as instrument trip/alarm settings to ensure plant integrity remains ensured and design objectives are met.
  • Ensure documents, including control and IPF narratives, functional design specifications, etc., are maintained and as-built comments are accurately kept.
  • Participate in required HSE activities (audits, meetings, etc.) and demonstrate safe work practices and procedures to contractors at all times.
  • Support the implementation of control and safeguarding functionality in DCS and SIS.
Requirements
  • University degree or equivalent in Control Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or Mathematics.
  • 8+ years of experience working with SIS in the process or oil and gas industries.
  • In-depth knowledge of Functional Safety Standard (IEC 61508 and IEC 61511).
  • Strong understanding of Process Safety concepts, such as HAZOP, LOPA, and risk assessments.
  • Understanding of SIL verification and validation.
  • Troubleshooting skills with SIS systems, including logic solvers, sensors, and actuators.
  • 2+ years of Yokogawa Centum VP and Yokogawa ProSafe experience.
  • Certification in Functional Safety (TUV, CFSE, or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Wider appreciation of Gas/LNG business processes and principles and experience in a Gas/LNG Major Project is an advantage.
  • Ability to contribute to decision support and assurance as well as organizing and/or carrying out hands-on technical evaluations.
  • Sound systematic approach to technical and multi-disciplinary challenges. Strong analytical abilities, having knowledge of engineering tools and simulations, etc.
  • Able to integrate projects and initiatives while managing inter-cultural sensitivities and leveraging D&I. Communicate with internal and external interfaces with strong spoken and written communication skills.
Work Environment

The Safety Instrumented Systems Specialist will work in Kitimat, BC, with a 50-hour workweek, 10-hour days, which may need to be extended to 12-hour day/night shifts during critical start-up activities.

The company provides accommodation in Kitimat (unaccompanied status).

The normal working pattern is 10 hours/day x 5 days per week, with a shift pattern to support critical start-up activities: 12 hours per shift to align with the team shift pattern, 7D - 7N - 4 Break.

The start date of the position is ASAP.
