Position Title: Event Management Specialist

Reports to: Executive Director

Classification: Special Project Employee (as per Collective Agreement)

Project Overview: The Kootenay Career Development Society is seeking an individual to oversee the logistics for a significant community event. This role involves coordinating all aspects of the event, from preparation to execution and evaluation. The successful candidate will collaborate with an Event Committee and will have access to a budget for planning purposes. Flexibility in hours is required, particularly during the lead-up to and following the event.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Event Preparation: Engaging with presenters and vendors, managing invitations, and seeking funding opportunities.
  2. Marketing and Promotion: Establishing a brand identity for the event, arranging media coverage, and leveraging local networks.
  3. Event Execution: Coordinating with venue staff, creating event layouts, facilitating the event, and providing regular updates to the committee.
  4. Post-Event Evaluation: Assessing the event's outcomes and gathering participant feedback.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Secondary education is preferred but not essential.
  2. Proven experience in event planning and organization.
  3. Background in not-for-profit sectors and familiarity with community needs.
  4. Strong creative problem-solving abilities.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Ability to work autonomously with effective time management.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills and an established community network are advantageous.

Compensation:

$30.18/hour (Grid 12 Program Coordinator I, Step 2), with an estimated total of 70 hours allocated for the project duration. The majority of hours will be concentrated around the event period.

10.2% in lieu of vacation and statutory holidays.

Additional Requirements:

  1. Access to a reliable vehicle and a valid Class V driver's license.
  2. Ability to work from a home office or designated workspace.
