Position Overview:
The Practical Nursing Specialist (PNS) utilizes the nursing process to assist clients/residents/patients in achieving and sustaining their highest level of health through a client-centered care approach within various healthcare settings including acute care, transitional care, personal care homes, primary health care, public health initiatives, and home care services. The PNS operates within the full scope of practice, engages in continuous education, and upholds competencies in alignment with the policies of Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, Professional Standards of Practice, and the Code of Ethics established by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba.
The individual in this role will demonstrate initiative and independent judgment in prioritizing tasks, selecting appropriate work methods, and addressing atypical situations. The position is performed in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
Qualifications:
- Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Fetal Health Surveillance in Labour training
- Understanding of Professional Standards of Practice and the Competency Profile for Licensed Practical Nurses in Manitoba
- Proven ability to cultivate a collaborative interdisciplinary environment that enhances service quality and staff empowerment
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive working relationships
- Effective conflict resolution capabilities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Analytical and inquisitive approach to problem-solving with a focus on program enhancement
- Demonstrated leadership and decision-making skills
- Strong organizational abilities and adaptability to meet job demands
- Capacity to perform the responsibilities of the position effectively
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and competency in the practice area
