Hatch is seeking a highly motivated Geotechnical Tailings Engineer to join our team in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). As a key member of our expanding Geotechnical Discipline, you will support the development of our Tailings and Mine Waste Management (Tailings & MW Mgmt.) Practice group.
Key Responsibilities:- Collaborate with engineers on geotechnical projects, including site investigations, dam foundation design, and slope stabilization.
- Develop geotechnical investigation programs and support project engineers in their work.
- Contribute to the preparation of geotechnical studies and engineering reports.
- Assess slope stability under static and earthquake loadings.
- Predict water table locations in tailings storage facilities with various tailings technologies.
- Support project teams in interrogating geotechnical models of tailings storage facilities.
- Address geotechnical issues such as settlements, liquefaction potential, slope stabilization, pore pressure generation, excavation, and backfilling procedures.
- Support field operations through supervision and monitoring of boreholes, in situ tests, and construction work.
- Conduct limit equilibrium analyses under various loading conditions.
- Support project teams in deformation analyses under static and earthquake loadings.
- Assist intermediate and senior engineers in data analysis and report preparation.
- Bachelor's or post-graduate degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological, or Mining Engineering from an accredited University.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role.
- Construction/field experience is a bonus.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese is preferred.
- Ability to work seamlessly in an international team with a strong client focus.
- Proficient in GeoStudio package and Excel. Knowledge of Python or Visual Basic is a plus.
- Ability to travel internationally.
- Valid passport and driver's license.
