Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate a range of complex processes and utilities equipment.
  • Provide essential utilities services including electricity, steam, mill water, compressed air, nitrogen, oxygen, and wastewater to support steel production.
  • Efficiently manage high-pressure steam equipment and its auxiliaries within the steelworks.
  • Respond promptly to operational changes to maintain efficiency.
  • Monitor operations in both control room and field settings, overseeing intricate processes.
  • Ensure compliance with the TSSA Operating Engineer's Act and Algoma's operational policies.
  • Utilize environmental control systems to meet emission standards.
  • Address process modifications to guarantee safe and stable operations.
  • Conduct equipment shutdowns, isolations, lockouts, and repairs on various machinery.
  • Engage in regular safety training and adhere to health and safety protocols.
  • Be prepared for physically demanding tasks in varying temperature environments.
  • Contribute to equipment maintenance to ensure consistent plant performance.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Operating Engineers certificate with TSSA (4th class, 3rd class, or 2nd class).
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field is an asset.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining boilers, steam turbines, gas turbines, and environmental control systems.
  • Supervisory experience is advantageous.
  • Willingness to work 12-hour shifts, including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively while effectively communicating operational needs and improvements.
