International Tax Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled International Tax Consultant to join our team at Wawanesa. As a key member of our tax department, you will be responsible for providing expert tax advice and guidance to support the company's growth and success.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare quarterly and annual tax provisions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Assist with managing the overall tax position for the Canadian P&C insurance, Life insurance, and broker operations.
- Collaborate with the financial reporting team to ensure all Canadian and US tax financial reporting requirements are met.
- Prepare corporate compliance and information tax returns as assigned.
- Assist with responsibility for compliance and timely submission with all statutory tax filing requirements.
- Review and guide the work assigned to Tax Specialists and/or Tax Analysts.
- Review and analyze premium tax reconciliations and supporting working papers prepared by Finance teams.
- Assist with managing corporate income tax and commodity tax audits, maintaining amicable relationships with external tax auditors.
- Assist with tax planning, research, and analysis of strategic initiatives, changes in legislation, and industry trends.
- Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) degree with a major in Accounting or other related post-secondary degree.
- CPA accounting designation and completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax Program or Masters in Tax.
- Minimum of 5 years in industry or public practice, with at least 3 years being direct tax experience.
- Excellent planning and organizing skills, with the ability to keep track of the status of various tasks and project activities.
- Previous experience in dealing with taxation auditors (CRA & provincial tax authorities) is preferred.
- Previous involvement with tax planning with respect to mergers and acquisitions is preferred.
