Position OverviewIn this role, you will exemplify leadership by prioritizing safety and utilizing your extensive knowledge of gas infrastructure to mentor and guide a team in executing Operations projects. Your collaborative approach will be essential in supporting various departments, as you recognize that diverse perspectives are crucial for driving engagement and innovation. We seek your expertise and experience as our Gas Operations Team Leader.
In this capacity, you will oversee and manage personnel and contractors tasked with monitoring third-party activities near high-pressure pipelines, providing technical guidance and support on matters related to pipeline safety, ground disturbance, construction, permitting, and best practices for working around utilities and high-pressure pipelines.
Key Responsibilities:- Gain an understanding of the company's various operational areas and the responsibilities of the pipeline inspection team to provide effective support.
- Manage team members in accordance with the collective agreement, offering mentorship and guidance.
- Collaborate with other operational personnel, departments, and contractors to successfully implement projects and initiatives.
- Familiarize yourself with FortisBC's policies, standards, and procedures relevant to the role.
- Oversee contracts, financial planning, budgets, and cost management, while supporting future budget planning.
- Address public inquiries and complaints, liaising with agents regarding encroachments and permitted or non-permitted activities near gas pipelines, operations, vegetation management, and right-of-way usage.
- Encourage innovative approaches to work processes to resolve challenges in the inspection process, explore new methodologies, and identify opportunities for business advancement.
- Travel to work sites to ensure quality oversight and compliance with industry standards, applicable metrics, and service level agreements.
- A bachelor's degree or diploma in a relevant field from an accredited program, certification with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC, or a professional equivalent, along with four to seven years of relevant field experience in a leadership role, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of pipeline inspection procedures and policies, or similar experience in the construction or utility sector, such as civil works, construction, or project management.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and procedures when working around utilities and high-pressure pipelines, including safe excavation and ground disturbance practices.
- Exceptional leadership abilities to empower staff in enhancing business processes and collaboratively lead projects to successful outcomes.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills to effectively manage competing priorities in a high-risk environment.
