Position Overview:

The Fleet Support/ Transition Engineer plays a crucial role under the guidance of the CH149 Fleet Support Supervisor, focusing on engineering tasks that facilitate the transition to a post-Mid-Life Upgrade CH149 Cormorant fleet. This position also involves assessing and executing technical initiatives to enhance the Cormorant fleet within the CH149 Engineering Acceptable Technical Organization (ATO).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the creation and evaluation of inspection documentation for aircraft components, utilizing guidance from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
  • Analyze and compare aircraft maintenance programs and technical documentation.
  • Identify and assess options to resolve issues raised in various forums, including:
    • Configuration variances among different aircraft fleets;
    • Technical or product enhancement initiatives.
  • Implement and oversee corrective actions related to Service Difficulty Reporting, Special Inspections, Service Bulletins, and Airworthiness Directives.
  • Monitor Flight Safety Incidents and track them through ATO processes.
  • Support the CH149 Aircraft Flight Manual Working Group as needed.
  • Provide analytical support and business cases for modifications and ATO initiatives.
  • Coordinate technical advice delivery to Main Operating Bases (MOB) regarding modifications.
  • Track design modifications on CH149 aircraft from OEM Product Improvement Leaflets, Change Collectors, and Service Bulletins to ensure fleet compliance.
  • Facilitate effective communication and serve as a liaison on technical issues with representatives from MOBs, Department of National Defense, aircraft and component OEMs, and Design Authorities.
  • Drive initiatives for process improvements and enhance efficiencies within the maintenance program.
  • Prepare and review repair designs, analyses, and other modifications as necessary.
  • Generate engineering reports, technical memoranda, and directives.
  • Support configuration management and data management activities within the department.
  • Execute airworthiness functions as a recognized Design Engineer or Design Technologist when authorized.
  • Undertake additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Engineering (B.Eng. or B.Sc.) or a Diploma in Engineering Technology (CET), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer or CET is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of engineering experience is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with rotary wing aircraft structures and mechanical systems is beneficial.
  • Understanding of airworthiness regulations and military aircraft modification processes is a plus.
  • Experience in an aircraft engineering environment is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Effective project management abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with individuals at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated self-discipline and the capacity to work independently when necessary.
  • Ability to logically analyze information and identify related causal factors, along with prioritizing multiple tasks effectively.
  • Must meet the requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Secret Level II Security Clearance, and Transport Canada RAIC clearance.
