Job Summary

The City of Ottawa is seeking a highly skilled Senior Rail Systems Engineer to join our Transit Services Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for monitoring, measuring, and reviewing the performance of our vehicle maintenance systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the production of quality metrics to measure the soundness of our vehicle system engineering processes
  • Provide a single point of contact for all technical issues and concerns regarding our vehicle fleets
  • Track, trend, and analyze fleet reliability issues for new and existing fleets
  • Oversee and provide direction and comments to fleet expansions
  • Complete technical analysis of rail system failure modes
  • Review and monitor operational requirements
  • Lead rail capital improvement projects
Requirements
  • Four (4) year Bachelor of Applied Science or Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering
  • Seven (7) years experience in rail vehicle fleet engineering, maintenance and operation, testing and commissioning, overhaul planning, life cycle planning, and reliability improvement programs for new and existing fleets and experience transit and rail control/power control systems, railway integrated control systems and systems integration
  • Knowledge of rail systems including track, power systems, and signaling systems would be an asset
Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
  • Conversant with railway design safety principles HSE/HMRI, railway safety standards
  • Familiar with AREMA standards, Transport Canada standards and mass transit APTA
