As a Clinical Extern, you will engage as an unregulated healthcare provider (UCP), collaborating with the healthcare team under the guidance of a designated regulated healthcare professional. Your experience and educational background will influence your level of knowledge, skills, and judgment. THP offers a supportive yet independent environment for externs to enhance their clinical abilities, knowledge, and confidence as they prepare for a registered role upon completing their studies.
Essential Qualifications
Candidates must be enrolled in one of the following programs:
Nursing Extern
Nursing students in any year of a College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) accredited Baccalaureate Nursing (BScN or BN) program or a Practical Nursing (PN) program.
Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs)
IENs who have begun the registration process with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and meet one of the following criteria:
Currently enrolled in a CNO approved program, such as a BScN-IEN or PN-IEN program, or Completing a micro-credential plan to meet CNO registration requirements, or Have fulfilled educational requirements and are awaiting to take the registration exam.Additionally, candidates should possess:
Evidence of strong academic performance Successful clinical placement experiences Effective communication and interpersonal skillsKey Responsibilities
Provide patient care under the supervision of a regulated health professional (RHP), adhering to organizational policies and professional standards. Collaborate with the supervising RHP to ensure competency in performing essential care activities, including assistance with mobility, personal hygiene, nutrition, and comfort. Seek assistance when necessary and promptly report any changes in the patient's condition to the healthcare team. Maintain punctuality for all assigned shifts and communicate any absences to management in advance. Uphold confidentiality in accordance with hospital policies. Exhibit strong communication and interpersonal skills. Maintain satisfactory performance and attendance.Application Process
