Job Title: Registered Clinical Counsellor

Job Summary:

The Clinical Counsellor provides comprehensive support and guidance to individuals struggling with mental health and substance use issues. This role involves facilitating recovery and capacity building to maximize social and economic potential, while supporting clients in achieving their goals for independent living.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct integrated services assessment interviews, ensuring clients' privacy and confidentiality.
  • Assess clients' suitability for the program and make referrals to other agencies when necessary.
  • Orient clients to the program by educating them on recovery maintenance, relapse prevention, and personal and life management.
  • Maintain accurate client records, reports, and statistics required by management.
  • Ensure all required documentation is complete and on time.
  • Work with the integrated addiction services team on clients' case planning and concerns.
  • Make arrangements for facilities and materials necessary for group sessions.
  • Assist with program evaluation and obtain client feedback through questionnaires and surveys.

Qualifications:

  • A Master's Degree in Counselling and registration with BCACC.
  • 3-5 years of experience in community social services and working with marginalized populations, substance use services, mental health, corrections, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the population health framework, social determinants of health, the biopsychosocial model of addiction, and concurrent disorders.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Excellent knowledge of recovery, substance use, concurrent disorders, homelessness, and addictions counselling.
  • Good knowledge of the BC Mental Health Act.
  • Good knowledge of facilitation, mediation, and conflict resolution techniques.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
