Job Overview
The Chemical Production Operator PO3 plays a crucial role in supporting the production operations of our active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) facility. This includes the setup, operation, monitoring, and cleaning of substantial equipment such as reactors, filters, dryers, and mills, which are essential for mixing and handling ingredients. Operators are also responsible for documenting relevant information and observations during the mixing process, troubleshooting equipment issues, and contributing to process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, execute, and monitor processing steps as directed by Senior Chemical Operators or the Production Supervisor, ensuring high-quality work is completed promptly.
- Adhere to all departmental and company health and safety policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), and other regulatory requirements.
- Accurately document data in production records in a timely manner under supervision.
- Report any injuries, accidents, or equipment malfunctions.
- Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment and follow established safety protocols.
- Maintain the production facility in a clean and orderly fashion in accordance with departmental guidelines.
- Conduct cleaning and sanitation of all production equipment and areas, including dryer rooms, using appropriate detergents and chemicals.
- Maintain constant communication with Senior Chemical Operators, Production Specialists, or the Production Supervisor regarding plant and equipment status, observations, or issues.
- Review new or updated departmental SOPs and participate in required training sessions.
- When assigned to a different work center, operate in a support capacity, shadowing a trained operator knowledgeable in the specific procedures of that area.
- Arrive at work 15 minutes before the shift to prepare for the upcoming duties.
- Collaborate as a team member to ensure safe working practices and achieve all operational outcomes.

- Perform any other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: Minimum high school diploma; College Diploma or CET (Chemical Engineering Technician) certification is strongly preferred; a post-secondary degree in chemical engineering or chemistry is desirable.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Mechanical aptitude, basic computer skills (e.g., MS Office), strong verbal and written communication skills, and a good command of the English language. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment and a desire to collaborate with team members to enhance processes and product quality. Willingness to comply with safety and quality regulations, including the use of protective equipment. Must meet the physical demands of the position, including extended periods of walking, standing, or sitting, lifting heavy objects, climbing, crouching, and operating tools and equipment. Flexibility to work continental (rotating days and nights) 12-hour shifts. A demonstrated continuous improvement mindset and knowledge of GMP requirements are assets.
- Experience: Prior experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment (minimum of 6 months); process chemistry experience is preferred.
