Job Title: Education Assistant

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Education Assistant to join our team at School District #5 (Southeast Kootenay). The successful candidate will work closely with our teachers and students to provide support and assistance in the classroom and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist students with diverse abilities, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, and complex challenging behaviors.
  • Provide physical and personal care assistance, including toileting, feeding, and dressing.
  • Support students with life and social skills development, academic assistance, and positive behavior support.
  • Assist with the delivery of programs and services to support students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents to ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Requirements:
  • Successful completion of a one-year Education Assistant Program certificate from a recognized accredited institute.
  • Minimum of 180 hours of supervised practicum by an accredited institute in a school setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with students with diverse abilities and challenging behaviors.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work in a team environment.

  • A competitive wage rate of $28.64 per hour, as per the C.U.P.E Local 4165 Agreement.
  • A temporary position with the possibility of extension or conversion to a permanent role.
