As a Lead AI Research Scientist within the Autodesk Research AI Lab, you will engage in both foundational and applied research aimed at enhancing our customers' ability to envision, design, and create a better world.

In this position, you will collaborate closely with esteemed researchers and engineers to develop new machine learning-driven product features. The AI Lab is well-integrated into the broader research community, maintaining strong partnerships with leading academic institutions, thus merging academic rigor with product-focused research. Our lab actively contributes to prestigious conferences such as CVPR, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, and SIGGRAPH.

You are an expert in machine learning at scale, possessing experience in training extensive machine learning models through distributed deep learning techniques. Your expertise encompasses the design of large-scale models, conducting experiments informed by scaling principles, and optimizing data and computational resources for efficient model training. You are driven by a passion for problem-solving and innovation, eager to work alongside fellow AI researchers to create cutting-edge generative AI features in Autodesk products. Your communication skills enable you to thrive at the intersection of research and product development.

This position offers flexibility in location, as we are a global team with members in various regions, including remote options. Autodesk promotes a hybrid work environment, allowing employees to choose between remote work, office presence, or a combination of both.

Responsibilities

  • Spearhead the design and scaling of machine learning models that bridge research and product development.
  • Utilize distributed deep learning frameworks to conduct scaling experiments with support from engineering and data teams.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify and resolve challenges in distributed deep learning training, such as checkpointing and model compression.
  • Enhance data flow and overall architecture efficiency.
  • Employ frameworks like Open Neural Network Exchange (ONNX) and TensorRT to develop high-performance model endpoints.
  • Produce robust, testable, and well-documented code.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot errors, providing effective solutions.
  • Present findings and progress to team members and leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in large-scale distributed machine learning model training.
  • Familiarity with 3D Parallelism, including Tensor Parallelism, Sequence Parallelism, and Pipeline Parallelism.
  • Knowledge of frameworks for model sharding, such as DeepSpeed and FairScale.
  • Experience in large-scale distributed data processing.
  • Proficiency in software version control, unit testing, and deployment pipelines.
  • Experience with cloud services and architectures (AWS, Azure, etc.).
  • Strong written communication skills for documenting code, architectures, and experimental results.
  • Experience with high-performance computing hardware systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of design, manufacturing, architecture, engineering, construction, or media & entertainment sectors.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk products or similar software (CAD, CAE, CAM, etc.).
  • Strong skills in data modeling, architecture, and processing with diverse data representations, including 2D and 3D geometry.
  • Experience with C++/CUDA programming.
