Job Summary

The Childcare Facility Manager will oversee the daily operations of the Métis Family Services Childcare Centre, ensuring alignment with cultural safety and trauma-informed practice principles. This role will play a crucial part in defining program methodologies, establishing policies and procedures, and managing labor relations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Management
    • Implement a trauma-informed and culturally competent practice approach in daily operations.
    • Ensure compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal policies and regulations.
    • Liaise with childcare and family agencies throughout Mission.
    • Develop effective childcare policies and procedures manuals.
    • Oversee registration of children, including wait-list management and communication strategies.
    • Facilitate ongoing feedback from families and respond to inquiries or complaints.
    • Update and maintain the Childcare Centre's online presence.
    • Ensure adequate security in the facility.
    • Work on the floor as an Early Childhood Educator as backup for staff absences.
    • Identify families needing outreach and connect them to Métis Family Services and local support organizations.
    • Develop a supply list and oversee procurement processes.
    • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and licensing regulations.
  • Personnel Management
    • Oversee staff recruitment, retention, and well-being, including interviewing, hiring, training, and supervising Early Childcare Educators and Assistants.
    • Interview and hire new staff.
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive labor management strategy.
    • Manage vacation time and overtime to minimize salary liability.
    • Set performance expectations and oversee performance and training plans.
    • Carry out workplace investigations, apply progressive discipline, and terminate staff employment as required.
    • Manage staff succession and progression planning.
    • Provide leadership and support to Childcare staff.
    • Conduct regular communications, planning, and strategy meetings with staff and stakeholders.
    • Complete staff scheduling, payroll, performance evaluations, and coaching.
    • Oversee or designate supervision of practicum students.
    • Lead and support key opportunities for staff recognition.
    • Ensure personnel comply with the Community Care Facility Act.
  • Financial Management
    • Develop and administer annual budgets to meet the program's financial planning goals.
    • Prepare monthly cash flow forecasts and recommend reallocation of funds.
    • Develop and maintain financial controls and procedures within the Childcare Centre.
    • Assume primary responsibility for internal controls for family fees.
    • Maintain a PCI-compliant transaction system.
    • Oversee daily program expenditures, ensuring funds are spent within program guidelines.
    • Assist the finance department with reports and provide feedback as required.
  • Collaborative Partnerships
    • Work with community partners, Fraser Valley Métis Association, and program funders.
    • Develop initiatives focusing on strong service delivery that positively impact staff and family experiences.
    • Lead and participate in Childcare Centre meetings and leadership development initiatives.
    • Ensure program delivery aligns with service deliverables outlined in funding contracts.
    • Address complaints and resolve problems as required.
    • Ensure effective communication with supervisor, clients, and families.
    • Consult with the Director of Programs and Practice on a case-by-case basis.
    • Maintain individual client files and ensure confidentiality.
    • Provide written documents and monthly reports to the Director of Programs and Practice.
    • Perform other related duties as required.
