Job Summary

The Quality Improvement Intern will play a key role in supporting the Quality and Patient Safety department at William Osler Health System. This role will involve collaborating with stakeholders to identify and implement quality improvement initiatives, analyzing data to inform decision-making, and developing presentations and reports to communicate findings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support corporate quality improvement initiatives, including patient safety and professional practice initiatives
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of quality improvement projects, focusing on areas such as clinical appropriateness of care, efficiency, effectiveness, workflow, access to care, continuity of care, safety, and patient experience
  • Apply a systems-focused approach to achieve optimal results in quality, safety, reliability, efficiency, and productivity
  • Develop and identify performance and outcome indicators
  • Engage in the collection, interpretation, analysis, and presentation of performance data
  • Partner with Risk Management on key patient safety initiatives, as needed
  • Develop presentations, reports, and training and educational materials

Requirements

  • Enrollment in a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program
  • Registered Nurse in good standing with a minimum of 2 years of healthcare experience
  • Data management and statistical experience desirable
  • Proven ability to remain up-to-date with healthcare quality assurance trends, practices, and legislation
  • Experience in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data for quality improvement purposes
  • Previous experience in hospital projects, preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and designing software (e.g., Canva)
  • Experience with healthcare information systems and electronic health records
