Opportunity Overview:
As an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), you will serve as a vital advocate for patients, effectively engaging with community partners and healthcare professionals to guarantee safe and efficient patient care and transport. Your role will involve the safe operation of emergency vehicles, responding to medical and traumatic emergencies, as well as inter-facility transport requests, all while adhering to established professional standards, medical protocols, and operational procedures. Role Responsibilities:
In the capacity of an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), your primary duties will include transporting patients who are ill or injured from emergency scenes and/or between healthcare facilities. This encompasses operating ambulances or alternative transport methods, assessing emergency situations and patients, providing basic treatments, and completing necessary documentation, including patient care reports. You will also assist in ensuring that ambulances or other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles, such as non-emergency transport (NET), are adequately stocked and equipped.
Essential Qualifications:You must hold a non-restricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACoP) as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR). A current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification issued by Heart and Stroke is required. You must be able to obtain a valid Class 4 Alberta Operator Licence, or equivalent, along with a current five (5) year driver’s abstract - within six (6) months, with no more than six (6) demerits prior to starting employment. Proof of successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (test by Lifemark or an approved equivalent) must be provided before receiving an employment offer - applicable to all candidates, including those currently employed by AHS who do not hold a clinical position within AHS EMS.
Additional Qualifications:Applications may be shared with AHS EMS recruitment teams from various communities. The successful candidate will collaborate effectively with patients, their families, and members of the healthcare team, consulting with other healthcare providers as necessary. Candidates must be capable of lifting and moving patients and equipment.
