Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Regional PLC Automation Specialist to join our team at the Atikokan Economic Development Corporation. This role is pivotal in enhancing the operational efficiency of our sawmill facilities located in the Northwest region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold the highest standards of safety in all sawmill and planer operations.
  • Identify, propose, and implement performance enhancements through rigorous quality assurance and control protocols to guarantee accurate log processing and lumber production quality.
  • Conduct on-site evaluations and assessments to optimize operational workflows.
  • Collaborate with maintenance supervisors to ensure peak performance and efficiency in mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot machinery and equipment to rectify operational irregularities.
  • Oversee compliance with regulatory and quality standards throughout the operational processes.
  • Facilitate the transfer of technology and provide support in troubleshooting to achieve optimal performance and product quality.
  • Identify deficiencies in inspection functions and develop corrective measures.
  • Audit and inspect processes, equipment, and product quality to ensure adherence to standards.
  • Conduct studies to enhance the reliability and capacity of our mills in line with product quality standards.
  • Manage administrative duties including production reports, maintenance logs, health and safety documentation, and training records.
  • Be prepared for early morning shifts and travel as required for operational oversight.

Team Dynamics:

You will report to the PLC Optimization Superintendent and be part of a results-driven team that values exceeding expectations.

Candidate Profile:

  • Possess a degree or certification in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field, with eligibility for provincial certification.
  • Bring 3 to 5 years of experience in a relevant industrial setting.

Desired Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Team-oriented with the capacity to engage with all organizational levels and adapt to changes.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications such as AutoCAD, MS Office Suite.
  • Formal training in PLC systems with a solid understanding of electrical and mechanical principles.
  • Self-motivated with a commitment to safety and reliability.
  • Familiarity with sawmill and planer mill machinery is advantageous.
