Principal Engineer for Facilities

Position Overview:
As a pivotal member of the Developments Engineering Department, the Senior Facilities Engineer will play a crucial role in advancing the Atlantic Region's initiatives aimed at optimizing value creation. This position is essential for the Developments Team, requiring a seasoned engineer with expertise in subsea tieback planning and execution, along with a solid understanding of the stage gate delivery framework.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and strategize opportunities to enhance value for Cenovus.
- Utilize analytical and critical thinking skills to devise comprehensive solutions that consider broader implications across various processes and functions.
- Oversee the execution of developments and special projects through project delivery stages 1, 2, and 3.
- Define and manage scopes of work for contractor studies to support potential developments and special projects.
- Review and ensure quality assurance of work conducted by external engineering contractors through peer, design, and value assurance evaluations.
- Prepare and contribute to presentation materials that effectively communicate study and evaluation outcomes.
- Engage in the contracting strategy and bid process related to feasibility, concept selection, pre-FEED, and FEED level study work scopes.
- Champion the application of Cenovus' Project Stage Gate Process.
- Implement process improvements where gaps are identified and apply lessons learned from previous projects to new initiatives.
- Provide technical support to the Atlantic Region and other business units within Cenovus.
- Offer technical assurance as a facilitator and/or reviewer for other projects.
- Manage multiple projects while balancing competing priorities.
- Mentor junior engineers and team members.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in engineering is required; project management training is a plus.
- Proven experience with the stage gate process in oil and gas projects.
- At least 8 years of relevant experience in the oil and gas sector, preferably with a focus on subsea tieback planning and execution.
- Experience in developing scopes of work and managing contractor resources.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to effectively engage with senior leadership.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, along with strong presentation abilities.
- Adept at working independently and collaboratively within a team, including external partners such as service providers and consultants.
- A commitment to continuous professional development and the ability to multitask effectively.
- Membership in good standing or eligibility for registration with Professional Engineers and Geoscientist Newfoundland & Labrador (PEGNL).
