About the Role

As a Child Protection Worker, you will play a vital role in safeguarding the well-being of First Nations children and families within our community. Your responsibilities will encompass providing culturally sensitive support, conducting thorough investigations, and advocating for the needs of vulnerable individuals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver compassionate and equitable services to First Nations children and families, adhering to agency policies, procedures, and Ontario Child Protection Standards.
  • Build strong relationships with local communities, both on and off reserve, to identify resources and develop effective strategies for addressing challenges faced by First Nations families.
  • Provide a comprehensive range of child protection services to a diverse caseload of voluntary and non-voluntary clients.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into allegations of child abuse and/or maltreatment, assessing risks and determining appropriate actions.
  • Respond effectively to crisis situations, evaluating potential dangers to children and implementing necessary interventions, which may include alternative placement arrangements.
  • Advocate for children and families by connecting them with essential support services within the community.
  • Collaborate with the team to achieve departmental objectives and contribute to a positive and supportive work environment.
  • Coordinate customary care and society placements, ensuring smooth transitions for children and families throughout the process.
  • Provide testimony in child welfare, criminal, and juvenile court proceedings, supporting agency recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) with prior child welfare experience within First Nations communities or two years of social service experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of OACAS New Worker Training Modules is preferred.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License (Class G), willingness to travel, flexibility to work various hours, and availability for on-call services as required.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Fluency in a native language is highly valued.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking, problem-solving, negotiation, decision-making, planning, organization, administration, and written and verbal communication.
