Position Overview

The role involves executing educational responsibilities, including setting learning benchmarks aligned with the curricular competencies and content for French Immersion learners based on the BC Curriculum. This includes recognizing educational requirements, crafting educational programs or activities, offering interventions and support for student success, and fostering a learning atmosphere that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusivity, while exemplifying the Professional Standards for BC Educators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and prepare French Immersion course instruction for student delivery as per the BC Curriculum.
  • Utilize a multimedia instructional approach to systematically plan lessons, discussions, and experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Facilitate activities that enhance students' social and emotional learning.
  • Evaluate students in accordance with NLPS assessment and reporting guidelines, as well as Ministry reporting standards.
  • Provide ongoing, timely, and responsive communication regarding student learning based on NLPS assessment and reporting guidelines.
  • Identify diverse needs within the classroom and deliver differentiated instruction in line with NLPS Inclusion Policy.
  • Support and engage in inquiry-based learning initiatives.
  • Contribute to the execution of school plans and objectives.
  • Assist in the implementation of supports following District-wide assessments.
  • May be required to oversee Practicum Students, Education Assistants, or Responsible Adults.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Professional Certification from the BC Teacher Regulation Branch.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Education or an equivalent qualification.
  • Proficient academic fluency in both oral and written French.
  • Qualifications in specific subject areas for secondary education, typically defined as 12 UBC Units, 2nd year or higher.
  • Proven classroom teaching experience and/or pre-service experience in a K-12 educational environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding and integration of Indigenous teachings and learning into lessons and activities.
  • Solid knowledge of the BC Curriculum model and a concept/competency-driven curriculum.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to the needs, feelings, and capabilities of others.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills for effective instruction, differentiation, and assessment.
  • Capacity to engage and maintain student interest, effort, participation, and enthusiasm for both the content and learning process.
  • Ability to cultivate and sustain a caring, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing circumstances.
  • Collaborative skills to achieve group goals and objectives.
  • Ability to utilize balanced assessment and feedback to enhance student learning.
