Position Overview

This role is essential within our paving division, which has successfully managed a variety of projects, ensuring top-notch quality and timely delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Control the screed of the paver to maintain precise depth and grade for roadways, pathways, and parking areas.
  • Utilize Top Con automatic grade controls to set the angle and depth of the screed effectively.
  • Coordinate with the asphalt paving operator to ensure smooth operation of the paving machinery.
  • Regulate material flow and monitor its distribution over surfaces to guarantee even coverage.
  • Employ depth gauges to confirm that the compacted asphalt meets specified depth requirements.
  • Conduct daily preventative maintenance checks on the paver to identify potential mechanical issues and report them to the Foreman.
  • Document and report any unsafe work conditions, incidents, or near misses to the supervisor and engage in the investigation process.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience operating a screed in the paving sector.
  • Knowledge of Top Con grade control systems.
  • Experience working on commercial projects and city streets.
  • Certification in Construction Safety Training System (CSTS).
  • Ability to recognize and articulate mechanical issues related to the paver.

Work Environment:

  • Availability for extended hours, including evenings and weekends during the operational season.
  • Capability to work in high-temperature conditions.
  • Willingness to travel for work with minimal notice.
  • Possession of CSA-approved safety footwear.
