Position Overview:
Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Capital Projects Engineer will oversee the management and engineering of significant capital initiatives. While this role is primarily situated within the Kitchener facility, the successful candidate may also support projects at other AirBoss locations across North America as required by business needs. The Capital Projects Engineer will engage effectively with all stakeholders and take ownership of technical projects in manufacturing, including execution, solution development, equipment sourcing, installation management, and start-up processes. This role will employ suitable project management and reporting methodologies throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Define project scope and objectives, collaborating with all relevant departments and personnel to ensure technical viability.
  • Oversee a variety of complex capital projects from initial concept through to completion and commissioning, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and project specifications.
  • Facilitate coordination among internal teams, vendors, and contractors to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Implement capital projects using project management best practices aimed at enhancing plant operations, while applying appropriate change management strategies.
  • Supervise on-site activities conducted by contractors and consultants.
  • Share responsibility for ensuring that a robust health and safety program is established for contractors and service providers, maintaining effective safety objectives.
  • Prepare comprehensive capital project packages, including all supporting documentation, correspondence, comparisons, and cost-saving analyses, while verifying with local authorities for potential rebates and paybacks.
  • Assist the Maintenance and Engineering Manager in developing operational plans, budgets, capital projects, and long-term strategic initiatives.
  • Create, maintain, and update all existing AutoCAD files related to plant equipment, power distribution, and ongoing projects.
  • Act as a safety champion, leading by example and adhering to all plant health and safety policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, industrial, electrical engineering, or automation.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in managing engineering capital projects within a dynamic manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated project management expertise in planning, scheduling, task assignment, and budgeting.
  • PMP certification is considered an asset.
  • PEO designation is also regarded as an asset.
  • Proven experience in executing multi-disciplinary capital projects in a multi-stakeholder context.
  • Exceptional negotiation and problem-solving skills, with experience in root cause analysis.
  • Strong proficiency in computer applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Project.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Willingness to travel (approximately 20% within North America).
