Position Overview

The Lead Security Architect is tasked with supervising the technical dimensions of the architects who convert business objectives into a tailored security strategy. This role defines the foundational elements that guarantee the safety of computing operations and the facilitation of business initiatives. The incumbent is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and supporting the information security architecture framework and associated processes to ensure that other architecture groups align with the governance framework and related risk management protocols. This senior position assists others with complex technical challenges and empowers various groups to uphold the security posture. The role also involves developing and sustaining the architectural framework necessary to drive the delivery and upkeep of our security capabilities while guiding other architectural practices.

Main Responsibilities

Security Architecture Development – 65%

• Serve as a thought leader in security architecture, providing expertise and mentorship to stakeholders and peer architects.

• Spearhead security transformation initiatives through enterprise architecture efforts and documentation of artifacts.

• Articulate the security transformation roadmap by formulating the security vision, patterns, use cases, principles, strategy, operating model, and architecture.

• Comprehend the business and information technology landscape to translate it into a Security target architecture that facilitates the rapid integration of new technologies, propelling our digital transformation.

• Implement automation to generate insights, make informed decisions, and execute process activities.

• Concentrate on the overarching architecture while peer architects manage its individual components.

• Establish best-in-class security architecture processes for designing large-scale and sophisticated technology systems.

• Collaborate with peer architects to cultivate and maintain appropriate relationships among business, information, application, technology, and solution architects to create cohesive security architecture artifacts.

• Ensure compliance with corporate information standards and policies, as well as all facets of enterprise architecture.

Technical Leadership – 20%

• Identify and assess new practices and technological disruptors that may influence the security architecture.

• Integrate new best practices into the security architecture framework.

• Provide critical input on technologies to drive security transformation.

• Position new technologies within the security architecture context.

• Offer practical guidance regarding security architecture and automation.

• Collaborate with peer architects to deliver insights on a comprehensive governance model, ensuring solutions are developed in accordance with the defined security architecture.

Relationship Management – 15%

• Educate stakeholders on how security architecture supports the achievement of business strategies and desired outcomes.

• Clarify the purpose, value, and application of various security architecture models.

• Influence Information and Technology (I&T) to foster a comprehensive understanding of security architecture strategies and outcomes.

• Communicate deliverables effectively with stakeholders across Architecture, Integration, Operations, Supply Management, Legal, and various business lines.

Working Conditions

This role operates under standard office conditions with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the position, the incumbent must be capable of meeting tight deadlines and managing pressure. Occasional travel (10%) may be required within Canada and the United States for meetings with ecosystem partners or attendance at industry events or conferences.

Qualifications

Experience

Architecture and Security Transformation

• A minimum of 15 years of experience in various architecture roles, with recent involvement in security transformation.

• Extensive experience in developing a security vision, principles, strategy, operating model, and architecture.

• Significant experience in applying a structured approach to problem resolution.

Education/Certification/Designation

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent project experience.

• Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).

• Certifications in Offensive Security (e.g., Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP)) are considered an asset.

• Applies critical thinking and stays informed about industry needs.

• Demonstrates agility and drives change.

• Collaborates effectively and shares information.

• Communicates with impact and identifies needs to create value for all stakeholders.

• Recognizes potential safety and security risks and leads by example in promoting safety and security.

Technical Skills/Knowledge

• Ability to define and organize an architecture security framework using reusable building blocks.

• Understanding of the security implications of complex business operations and their connection to technological solutions that provide practical risk mitigation and business enablement.

• Familiarity with processes, methodologies, tools, and techniques used for constructing large information technology systems.

• Strong knowledge of the technologies and architectural principles required to build complex information technology systems.

• Awareness of standards, regulations, and legislation governing Information Security (e.g., PCI DSS, ISO 27001, OWASP).

• Familiarity with architectural frameworks (e.g., Togaf, Zachman) and security frameworks (e.g., CIS, NIST, MITRE) is advantageous.

• Knowledge of the Rail, Transportation, or Logistics industry is a plus.

This position is classified as a grade LEVEL 5. For internal candidates, the grade level of the position may adjust based on the employee's experience.
