Salary

The salary range for this position is $88,990 to $127,923. Interior Health Authority establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications and experience of the applicant, as well as an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

About the Role

In accordance with the established vision and values of Interior Health Authority, the Risk Management Leader provides risk management and legislative analysis and advice across the organization. This includes reviewing complex risk management scenarios, guiding and directing the response to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, and evaluating complex risk events that have occurred within the scope of operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reviews risk events that have occurred and provides guidance and direction to staff and physician leadership on the most appropriate response to minimize the likelihood of reoccurrence and minimize liability.
  • Proactively reviews potential risk events, analyzes the likelihood and impact of occurrence, and proposes risk management strategies to mitigate, transfer, accept, or avoid risk.
  • Ensures the timely collection and communication of risk event information to external legal counsel and the Health Care Protection Program (HCPP) to facilitate legal representation and insurance claim processing as necessary.
  • Works collaboratively with Policy and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) to support comprehensive risk integration amongst the Policy, ERM, and Risk programs.
  • Performs risk assessments on new projects or initiatives based on summaries submitted by project leads, assessing liability and legislative compliance risk and providing recommended additions or changes to processes or controls to mitigate, transfer, accept, or avoid risk.
  • Oversees the work of other Risk Management team members, providing day-to-day work direction and advice and guidance on escalated issues.
  • Monitors the expenditures for the Risk Management team and reports on variances to the approved budget.
  • Maintains expert knowledge of current risk management best practices and changes in relevant legislation through participation in training, provincial forums, and monitoring of BC Government Risk Management branch.
  • Leads and supports projects to advance Risk Management best practices and education in the organization.
  • Completes ad hoc reviews of policies and other documentation as requested by the Director to proactively manage risk and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
  • In alignment with Interior Health Authority's Occupational Health & Safety Program, maintains a healthy and safe work environment through complying with and implementing applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, responding to requests from WorkSafeBC, identifying hazards and communicating risks, ensuring compliance with employee training, conducting effective incident investigations, and implementing required corrective actions.
