At Intact Financial Corporation, we're looking for a skilled Intermediate Underwriter to join our Contract Surety team. As an Underwriter, you'll play a critical role in reviewing and interpreting financial statements to conduct financial and credit risk analysis, making informed decisions within your underwriting authority.

About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Underwriter with a strong understanding of financial statements and excellent analytical and research skills. You'll work closely with clients, including insurance brokers, lawyers, and government officials, to build and maintain positive relationships and provide surety solutions at the account level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse portfolio of contract surety accounts
  • Analyze and secure underwriting data, perform financial analysis, and apply critical thinking on underwriting decisions and client relationship issues
  • Assess risk and recommend approval of new and renewing contract surety facilities
  • Build partnerships with brokers and clients, delivering surety solutions in a professional and responsive manner
  • Develop broker relationships and marketing strategies to further new business development opportunities
  • Prioritize workflow to maximize productivity and meet deadlines
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of special acceptances to reinsurers
  • Maintain quality control and profitable growth
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of construction industry trends, market conditions, and current challenges and opportunities
  • Actively participate in industry functions, forums, and events
  • Travel will be required

What You Bring to the Table

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or finance or any combination of training and experience deemed relevant for the role
  • Surety or related business experience, and/or experience in a commercial insurance underwriting or brokerage capacity
  • Construction estimating experience is considered an asset
  • Solid understanding of financial statements
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • A history of providing excellent customer service and sound judgment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with co-workers in a team setting
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite of products
