Job SummaryWe are seeking a skilled Relief Cook to join our team at The Salvation Army. As a Relief Cook, you will play a vital role in preparing and serving nutritious meals to our residents.
Key Responsibilities- Meal Preparation: Prepare meals in accordance with menus and applicable food service regulations.
- Food Safety and Handling: Ensure the safe handling and storage of food and equipment to prevent contamination and foodborne illnesses.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff to ensure efficient meal service and maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
- Client Service: Provide excellent customer service to our residents, ensuring their dietary needs are met and their meals are prepared to their satisfaction.
- Inventory Management: Assist with inventory management, including ordering and receiving food supplies, and maintaining accurate records.
- Cleaning and Maintenance: Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including equipment, storage areas, and floors.
- Reporting and Communication: Report any issues or concerns to management, and communicate effectively with other staff members to ensure smooth operation of the kitchen.
- Education: Completion of secondary school and food handling certificate.
- Certifications: Valid First Aid/CPR certificate and WHMIS certificate.
- Experience: One to three years of prior related experience, with at least one year of institutional cooking experience.
- Skills: Good interpersonal and organizational skills, ability to work with volunteers, and a supportive and respectful approach to clients.
This is a casual position with no guaranteed hours. Flexibility in scheduling is required, and the work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor.
