About the Role

The University of Waterloo is seeking a highly skilled Information Technology Specialist to join our team. As an IT Specialist, you will be responsible for the provisioning and supporting of all information technology and related Microsoft Windows computing systems in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and guidance to clients, including troubleshooting and resolving computing and related technology issues.
  • Manage computing environments and supporting infrastructure, ensuring seamless operation and optimal performance.
  • Develop and implement technical solutions to support the department's academic and research missions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify and propose enhancements and improvements to systems and processes.
  • Document systems, processes, and procedures to ensure knowledge sharing and continuity.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends, applying this knowledge to improve services and support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, or engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of proven technical experience in a fast-paced environment, preferably in an academic setting.
  • Recognized certification in IT or a related field is an asset.
  • Strong system administration skills for Microsoft Windows client and server OS, with knowledge of Mac and Linux based systems.
  • Proficient level knowledge, support, and troubleshooting for desktop and server computers and software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, with minimal supervision.
