The Facilities and Engineering Management department is dedicated to delivering effective maintenance and custodial services that uphold the integrity and preservation of campus facilities. This role is essential in fostering a safe working environment and implementing effective risk management strategies to ensure a welcoming atmosphere that aligns with the standards of excellence supporting the programs at Nova Scotia Community College.

As part of our commitment to environmental sustainability, the incumbent will be expected to demonstrate a strong dedication to maintaining an eco-friendly workplace in all facets of their responsibilities, including waste management initiatives, energy conservation efforts, and efficiency programs.

The Electrician will focus on energy efficiency and sustainability by:

Ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the building's electrical and cabling systems in compliance with applicable standards. Conducting inspections, repairs, and upgrades to the electrical systems on campus, ensuring they meet operational and functional standards while adhering to safety regulations and the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC). Supervising team members to ensure safe and competent work practices. Collaborating with various contractors to coordinate and oversee projects on campus.

Required Qualifications

Educational Background and Experience:

A minimum of Inter-Provincial Journeyperson Electrical Construction Certification is required. Training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations is advantageous, along with Standard First Aid and CPR certifications. Telecommunications Structured Cabling Certification is also a plus. At least two years of recent, relevant experience in a facility, commercial, or industrial environment, particularly in electrical installation and construction projects. Proficiency in using computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, email, and inventory/work order software. Demonstrated experience in performing electrical maintenance tasks, including preventative, scheduled, and restorative maintenance.
