Quality Assurance Specialist

Key Responsibilities:
Proficient in Quality Assurance methodologies and industry best practices.
Experience in Manual Functional and System Integration Testing utilizing existing Test Cases/Scripts.
Capable of developing Test Cases/Scripts based on defined user requirements.
Responsible for logging, documenting defects, and retesting using Defect Management Tools, while providing testing status updates to Test Leads.
Familiarity with Test Strategies and Test Plans is essential.
Ability to identify and understand Test Data requirements.
Experience with large system Graphical User Interface (GUI) and non-GUI environments, including executing systems integration tests, specialized tests, and user acceptance testing as necessary (e.g., stress tests). The Junior System Tester/Quality Assurance Specialist will adhere to test plans, scripts, and cases, executing them across various components. Collaboration with the testing lead and IT lead of each project, as well as project team members, is crucial during the analysis, design, development, implementation, and ongoing support of required systems.
Essential Skills:
Experience in planning, organizing, and reporting on testing activities.
Preferred Skills:
Understanding of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and associated regulations and standards.
Experience in organizing and planning testing efforts for both large and small systems.
Experience in coding automated test scripts to generate sets of automated test cases.
Experience in testing Commercial Off-the-Shelf Applications (COTS).
Experience and Skill Set Requirements:
Quality assurance (QA) is defined in the RIDE-TI Testing Strategy as a systematic process to verify that IT solutions developed and unit tested by developers meet specified requirements before delivery for user acceptance testing.
QA ensures that the solution operates as intended based on design documents, mitigates potential technical issues, guarantees the solution is error-free, and confirms that the quality meets established standards and expectations.
Types of Testing Included in RIDE-TI QA:
System Testing:
Conducted on a complete, integrated system to verify that it functions as a whole and complies with specified requirements. This includes testing all components to identify and resolve defects before the system is made available for business user testing.
Integration Testing:
Involves testing individual software components collectively to ensure they work together as intended according to specified requirements.
AODA Testing:
Compliance testing to meet the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act standards, ensuring that new websites and web products meet established accessibility criteria.
Regression Testing:
Testing changes to applications to ensure no adverse effects on existing functionality, verifying that modifications do not disrupt unchanged functionalities.
End-to-End Testing:
Simulates full production cycles to identify inconsistencies across business processes, ensuring smooth transitions for end users as data flows through the system.
Successful candidates should demonstrate experience in:
- Writing and documenting test scenarios and scripts.
- Completing preparatory activities, including test materials.
- Testing using imaging and data capture solutions.
- Documenting test results and reporting progress.
- Creating, updating, and monitoring defects to support defect triage and resolution.
- Updating business requirements documentation and participating in design sessions.
- Working within the Ontario Public Service (OPS).
