Position Overview:

The Paver Operator plays a crucial role in the construction process, ensuring the safe and effective operation of asphalt paving machinery. Reporting directly to the Foreman, this position is essential for the precise application of hot mix asphalt on highways and streets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate paving machinery and other heavy equipment.
  • Conduct daily inspections and maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Preheat the paving screed prior to asphalt placement and monitor the temperature of the asphalt mixture.
  • Ignite burners to initiate heating units of the paver and manage screed temperature.
  • Utilize paver controls to adjust the screed auger, manage the hopper, and steer the paver effectively.
  • Position the paving machine accurately for receiving asphalt from dump trucks, maintaining a steady flow into the hopper.
  • Monitor the distribution of paving materials and adjust the screed direction to prevent voids at curbs and joints.
  • Ensure proper alignment of pavers within the work area for uniform asphalt application.
  • Attach screed extensions to modify width as necessary.
  • Regulate the temperature of asphalt as it flows from the hopper.
  • Provide training to new employees on safe and efficient paver operation.
  • Perform additional heavy equipment operations and construction-related tasks as required.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience as a Paving Operator is essential.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Operator's License with a clean driving record.
  • Familiarity with road construction materials, processes, and industry standards.
  • Proficient understanding of computerized controls and electronic systems.
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 lbs. consistently.
  • Willingness to work in remote locations and out of town as needed.
  • Availability for overtime work as required.
