We are seeking a Manager of Field Engineering Operations for our Cambridge, Ontario facilities.

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The role of the Manager of Field Engineering is crucial in enhancing the operational efficiency and technical capabilities of Field Services Construction and Major Projects. This position involves providing extensive support to Field Engineers, ensuring the smooth execution of proposals, and upholding rigorous quality standards throughout project lifecycles.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Collaborate closely with Field Engineers to produce accurate proposal estimates for construction initiatives.
  2. Provide technical expertise to improve the quality and feasibility of proposals.
  3. Maintain accountability for the highest quality and precise technical execution of Field Services Construction and Major Projects.
  4. Show commitment by participating in all regular project meetings and maintaining technical oversight throughout project phases.
  5. Oversee the comprehensive training of engineers and technicians in ASME, CSA, QA standards, and other technical competencies.
  6. Manage construction-specific qualifications, such as Modification Team Leads, to ensure optimal project performance.
  7. Strategize and administer departmental staffing allocations and annual budgets.
  8. Conduct performance evaluations and develop personalized development plans to foster talent within the team.
  9. Ensure compliance with Field Services Procedures, including the formulation and maintenance of construction procedures and policies.
  10. Uphold adherence to Nuclear Services Operating Procedures and Engineering, Procurement, Construction protocols.
  11. Provide essential support to Field Services Construction and Major Projects by delivering proposal estimates and execution strategies.
  12. Exercise diligent oversight, observation, and coaching during both training and project execution phases.
  13. Conduct regular site visits to ensure operational effectiveness and promptly address any emerging challenges.
  14. Guarantee strict compliance with all requirements outlined in the Quality Program.
  15. Ensure seamless adherence to station Engineering Change Control (ECC) procedures.
  16. Swiftly resolve issues and implement corrective actions to maintain project integrity and regulatory compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education : A Bachelor's degree in Applied Science in Engineering is required, providing a solid foundation in engineering principles and practices.

Experience : A minimum of 10 years of practical experience in the industry, demonstrating a profound understanding of engineering operations and project management.

Specialized Experience : At least 4 years of specific experience in a shop or field Project Engineering role, or an equivalent position, showcasing proficiency in project execution and coordination.

Professional Registration : Must be registered as a Professional Engineer of Ontario, ensuring adherence to professional standards and ethical practices.

Technical Expertise :

  • Proficient knowledge of Nuclear Codes such as ASME III, V, VIII, IX, N285, N286, and Nuclear Standards including N286, Z299, and N299.
  • Strong understanding of materials, machining techniques, manufacturing processes, and field execution practices.
  • Familiarity with Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) applications and limitations.
  • Proficient in writing technical reports and effectively communicating complex technical concepts in English.

Technical Skills :

  • Expertise in CAD software.
  • Experience in estimating the level of effort required for new projects and developing work processes.
  • Proficiency in executing work on critical paths and providing effective work direction in time-sensitive situations.

Interpersonal Skills :

  • In-depth understanding of Human Performance errors and their prevention tools.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical requirements into field-executable procedures.
  • Competence in training engineers, technicians, and trades in technically complex operations.

Business Acumen :

  • Understanding of customer relations and political subtext, along with contract and cost models.
