About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Intermediate Interior Designer to join our Interiors Practice at B+H Architects. As an Intermediate Interior Designer, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality design solutions that meet the needs of our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design Development: Work with the team to produce compelling and informative proposals and presentations that showcase our design expertise.
  • Client Engagement: Accompany senior colleagues to client meetings, presenting our design concepts and ideas in a clear and concise manner.
  • Space Planning: Provide space planning that accurately reflects the program, functional requirements, and design considerations of the project, meeting all building code requirements.
  • Design Concept Development: Lead the development of 2D and 3D design concepts, with an emphasis on high-quality renderings that capture the essence of our design vision.
  • Material Selection: Research, gather, recommend, and present to the team appropriate finishes and furnishings that meet the functional, aesthetic, environmental, and budgetary requirements of the project.
  • Documentation: Help prepare documentation for the selection, specification, procurement, and installation of furnishings and equipment, including detailed layout drawings and schedules.
  • Project Management: Produce and manage projects and schedules, working closely with a Project Manager as needed, according to project size.
  • Technical Knowledge: Understand the requirements of the plans, life safety issues, building codes, and other technical aspects, with knowledge in design, drawing, and details, finishes, building materials, specifications, codes, technical drawing, contract administration, and business practices.
  • Permit Applications: Assist with permit tender applications as required.
  • Construction Administration: Complete construction administration from tender through project close-out with assistance from CA staff as needed.
  • Mentorship: Mentor and train intern designers, sharing your expertise and knowledge to help them grow and develop in their careers.
Requirements
  • Education: A degree or diploma from a CIDA-accredited Interior Design program.
  • Experience: 4+ years' experience working with a recognized Interior Design or Architectural firm.
  • Professional Memberships: Membership with ARIDO (or other relevant regulatory body).
  • Certifications: Attained your NCIDQ certification.
  • LEED Certification: Attained, or are working towards attaining your LEED Green Associate certification.
  • Technical Skills: Sound knowledge of AutoCAD, REVIT, Windows (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint), and a host of 3D graphic programs such as 3Ds Max, Sketch-up, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.
  • Portfolio: A solid portfolio of diverse creative projects with emphasis in Workplace, Hospitality, and/or Healthcare design.
  • Industry Involvement: A proven background of involvement with the Interior Design industry, through volunteer work, ARIDO or IDC events or committees.
  • Technical Savviness: Technically savvy, able to learn and master new programs and apps.
  • REVIT Proficiency: Highly proficient with REVIT, both as a planning and modeling (3D) tool.
  • Self-Directed: Self-directed, able to work independently and know when to reach out for guidance and support.
  • Coaching and Feedback: Ready to receive and welcome coaching from supervisors and colleagues, assimilate feedback, and learn quickly from it.
  • Time Management: Armed with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Attitude and Skills: Positive attitude, passion, and patience.
