The Emergency & Urgent Care Program is dedicated to providing exemplary emergency medical services to our community. Our Emergency Department (ED) is committed to ensuring optimal patient and staff experiences, prioritizing safety and favorable outcomes.

Our ED at Mississauga Hospital handles a significant volume of patient visits daily, serving individuals from various backgrounds and demographics. We are recognized as a regional hub for several specialties, including stroke, neurology, cardiac care, and sexual assault services.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Registered Practical Nurse, you will:

  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to evaluate and manage a diverse range of patient health emergencies.
  • Deliver care to patients presenting with acute conditions upon their arrival at the emergency department.
  • Administer emergency interventions and work alongside physicians and nurse practitioners to establish appropriate treatment plans based on established medical protocols.
  • Conduct patient assessments, monitor vital signs, assist in treatment procedures, and fulfill other nursing duties within the ED.
  • Utilize critical thinking and advanced assessment skills to provide effective patient care.
  • Serve as a liaison among patients, families, healthcare team members, and community partners.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and participate in departmental committees.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of clinical guidelines and protocols.
  • Maintain professional competence through ongoing education and lifelong learning.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in Nursing.
  • Prior experience in an emergency department or clinical resource team setting is essential.
  • Must be registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) or eligible for registration.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to apply critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Positive attitude and a commitment to teamwork.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
  • Previous experience in emergency or medical/surgical settings is advantageous.
  • Continuous education in relevant areas such as patient assessment, cardiology, critical care, or emergency courses is considered an asset.
  • Flexibility and reliability to work within a diverse team environment.
  • A strong work ethic is essential.
