Job Summary

Océan is seeking a highly skilled Marine Engineer Officer to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the proper operation of our tug's machinery, including starting and stopping procedures for the main engines and auxiliary generators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate all machinery on fleet vessels, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
  • Perform preventive maintenance according to procedures and guidelines, minimizing downtime and ensuring optimal performance.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance of engine room and all equipment on board, utilizing your technical expertise to resolve complex issues.
  • Ensure proper operation of equipment on board, identifying and addressing any issues promptly.
  • Dismantle, repair, and reinstall equipment related to main diesel engines, auxiliary diesel engines, hydraulic valves, water pumps, and electrical systems onboard the vessel.
  • Read and understand vessel drawings (hull, piping diagrams, machinery, and electrical diagrams), utilizing your analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Participate in and support the activities of the Health, Safety, and Environment Management System, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment.

Requirements

  • Canadian 3rd Class Marine Engineer's Certificate (Motor)
  • Propulsion plant simulator Level 2 certificate
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years experience at sea as an engineer
  • Valid Marine Medical Certificate
  • Certificates of competency: Basic Safety STCW-BS; Lifeboat and rescue boat operating skills, other than fast rescue boats; Advanced firefighting techniques (certificates of competency required for marine voyages outside the Gulf)
  • Good knowledge of diesel mechanics and hydraulic systems
  • Analytical skills for problem-solving and troubleshooting
  • Ability to work on a computer in a Microsoft 365 environment
  • Responsible, autonomous, motivated by teamwork and punctual
  • Bilingualism in French and English, oral and written (asset)
