Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated Immunogenetics Lab Technologist I to become a vital part of our HLA/Immunogenetics Laboratory team. This role involves performing essential clinical laboratory tests and processing specimens related to Solid Organ Transplantation and Diagnostic Services. The successful candidate will also receive training for emergency testing related to Transfusion Support and other critical laboratory functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to HIPAA regulations to maintain patient and donor confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and accurately document any errors.
  • Conduct laboratory procedures with a focus on safety and report any safety concerns to the Supervisor.
  • Collaborate with team members to address specimen and testing issues, ensuring quality and timely results.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and reference materials for laboratory processes.
  • Perform Quality Control (QC) checks on equipment and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Prepare and label reagents, ensuring adequate inventory levels and cleanliness of the workspace.
  • Provide accurate patient reports to healthcare professionals while complying with HIPAA regulations.
  • Manage incoming orders for routine and emergency testing, evaluating specimen acceptability and troubleshooting as necessary.

Data Management:

  • Utilize laboratory management software to maintain accurate data and generate reports.
  • Document specimen receipts and ensure proper tracking for audit purposes.
  • Monitor patient database queues to optimize testing and reporting turnaround times.
  • Verify data accuracy and make necessary corrections in the database.

Specimen Preparation:

  • Handle the recording of consults and manage the logistics of sample sending and receiving.
  • Review requisitions and labels to ensure proper specimen processing and preservation.
  • Maintain accurate processing logs and documentation.
  • Organize specimens to prevent mix-ups and ensure quality preparation.

Training and Certification:

  • Engage in training for HLA molecular biology testing and related procedures.
  • Prepare for the ACHI Certification Examination by meeting eligibility requirements and gaining relevant knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience in HLA testing is required.
  • Current certification as an ACHI-Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and ability to perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to lift and handle laboratory equipment and materials safely.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and laboratory database operations.

Working Conditions:

  • This position requires adherence to various regulatory standards and may involve on-call responsibilities.
  • Work may include extended hours and the need to respond to urgent laboratory requests.
