Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver professional planning consulting services to the land development sector, including project design and regulatory approval coordination;
- Contribute to the research and development of municipal planning documents such as official plans and zoning regulations;
- Prepare planning policies and zoning interpretations for land development clients;
- Facilitate the preparation and submission of land development applications;
- Assist in the creation of environmental study reports and project documentation;
- Stay informed about planning trends and legislative changes;
- Conduct research and prepare studies on various municipal planning topics, presenting findings to senior staff and stakeholders;
- Act as a liaison between clients and regulatory authorities;
- Engage in WSP's national Centres of Excellence, collaborating with peers to enhance professional knowledge;
- Work alongside multidisciplinary teams to support policy, land development, and environmental initiatives;
- Mentor early-career professionals by delegating tasks and providing guidance;
- Communicate effectively with government agencies, municipalities, private developers, and community organizations;
- Engage with diverse audiences, including the public, community groups, and municipal councils;
- Assist in proposal preparation and contribute to business development efforts;
- Coordinate and support public consultation initiatives.
- A degree in Community Planning, Urban Planning, or a related discipline;
- 4+ years of relevant experience in community planning or a comparable combination of education and experience;
- Strong understanding of the Ontario planning framework;
- Membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners or Ontario Professional Planners Institute;
- Excellent analytical and decision-making abilities, capable of resolving complex issues;
- Familiarity with design tools such as SketchUp and Adobe Creative Suite is an asset;
- Exceptional time management skills, adept at handling multiple priorities;
- Experience in a planning role within a municipality or consultancy, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality outcomes;
- Experience in public consultation and engagement is advantageous;
- A valid Ontario Driver's License is considered an asset.
