Position Overview

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary is looking for qualified candidates to fill a Senior Planner role within the Planning and Development department on a temporary full-time basis. This position is intended to provide support during a maternity leave for a permanent staff member. The successful candidate will engage in long-term planning initiatives, including Official Community Plans (OCPs) and Zoning Bylaws, which will involve extensive research, detailed reporting, and community engagement.

The Senior Planner will report directly to the Manager of Planning and Development and will play a crucial role in managing complex applications for amendments to planning bylaws. This position is ideal for seasoned planners eager to contribute to significant projects while enjoying the scenic Kootenay Boundary region.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Planning or a related field from an accredited institution. Preference will be given to those with advanced degrees.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant planning experience, ideally within a local or rural government context.
  • Eligibility for membership with the Planning Institute of British Columbia or the Canadian Institute of Planners.
  • Strong understanding of applicable land use regulations.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proven organizational and time management skills, with the capacity to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, as well as experience with publishing and mapping software.
  • A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License.
