Laboratory Clerk

Interior Health Authority is seeking a Casual Laboratory Clerk to work at Shuswap Lake General Hospital in Salmon Arm, BC. This position involves performing a variety of clerical and receptionist duties, including scheduling appointments, processing patient samples, and maintaining laboratory inventory and supplies.

• Scheduling appointments and performing computer entry, filing, telephoning, faxing, and invoicing;
• Receiving and registering patients by obtaining necessary information for patient data and test entry into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) according to established procedures;
• Receiving, processing, and preparing patient samples in accordance with established procedures;
• Prioritizing workflow and preparing samples for send-out in accordance with all transportation regulations and procedures;
• Mailing and distributing patient reports as required;
• Distributing, filing, retrieving, and disposing of laboratory specimens, slides, and blocks;
• Maintaining laboratory inventory and supplies;
• Maintaining a variety of records such as standing orders and requisitions, temperature records, cleaning and disinfection logs, inventory logs;
• Performing other related duties as required.

• Grade 12, Plus
• Two year's recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Completion of an administered 5 minute typing certificate of 45wpm in the last 48 months from an approved institution (non-supervised tests are not accepted)
• Completion of a Medical Terminology course.

• A current 5 Minute Typing Test 45 wpm or greater completed within past 48 months from a recognized institution, (ON-LINE TESTS NOT ACCEPTED);
• Proof of completion of a Medical Terminology Course;
• Your Resume indicating two year's recent related experience, Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
• A Cover Letter stating your availability to start in a new position and on-call, casual work (i.e. days of the week).
