Position Overview:

The Heavy Equipment Technician plays a crucial role in the maintenance and repair of our extensive fleet of heavy machinery, including specialized construction equipment and attachments. This position involves overseeing the scheduling and execution of repairs and preventive maintenance for a variety of heavy trucks and trailers. Additionally, the technician will supervise shop staff, ensuring that all tasks are performed safely and efficiently while maintaining a clean and organized workspace. This role requires both shop-based work and occasional field visits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold and promote Secure Energy's safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership and clear guidance to heavy-duty mechanics and welders, ensuring an equitable distribution of workload and fostering professional development.
  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes and filter replacements.
  • Troubleshoot and repair air and hydraulic systems, power and drive trains, steering and suspension, and heavy equipment attachments.
  • Address unique equipment issues as they arise.
  • Perform inspections and basic diagnostics on machinery.
  • Operate equipment to conduct diagnostic tests effectively.
  • Carry out visual inspections to identify potential mechanical failures and ensure immediate rectification of issues.
  • Assist in maintaining the overall cleanliness and organization of the shop and yard.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of tools and equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with the safety department and participate in safety meetings.
  • Adhere to site-specific safety requirements while working in the field.

Required Qualifications:

  • Journeyman's Certification as a Heavy Equipment Technician, obtained through a recognized Apprenticeship Program, or equivalent experience as per provincial guidelines.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant industry experience or demonstrated competency.
  • Welding skills are considered an asset.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driving record (air brake endorsement preferred).
  • Ability to complete safety documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Extensive knowledge and competency in maintaining, servicing, diagnosing, and repairing heavy-duty equipment and vehicles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to process diagnostic information logically.
  • A solid understanding of hydraulic systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals and work orders.
  • Capability to test repaired equipment to ensure it meets manufacturer specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to accurately complete service reports.
  • Physical strength and stamina to work with heavy machinery and in confined spaces.
  • A keen interest in staying updated with advancements in heavy-duty equipment technology and diagnostic tools.
