Mental Health Advisor Role

The Canadian Red Cross is seeking a skilled Mental Health Advisor to advance the provision of mental health and psychosocial support across operations and programs. This role requires a registered professional with a degree in public health, medicine, psychology, social work, nursing, or a related field.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deploy nationally to support impacted populations, including Indigenous communities and remote areas.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments to understand community impacts and develop recommendations for service design and delivery.
  • Collaborate with community partners to ensure holistic support for individuals, focusing on capacity building and resiliency.
  • Provide guidance on complex mental health, psychosocial, and protection considerations to personnel in the field.
  • Lead capacity-building activities, such as harm reduction approaches and traditional ways of knowing.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of mental health services through end-of-mission reporting and debriefing.
Requirements:
  • Registered professional with a degree in a relevant field.
  • Training and/or experience in Psychological First Aid and crisis intervention.
  • Experience in emergency environments, such as disaster response and humanitarian crises.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize affected individuals and communities, coordinate with stakeholders, and analyze complex issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with French/English bilingualism a strong asset.
Working Conditions:
  • Deployments may involve working in unstable and unpredictable environments, requiring non-traditional working hours and adherence to security regulations.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada is required, with a successful Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC) and Covid-19 vaccination strongly encouraged.
