We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced leader to join our team as a Battalion Chief - Operations. As a key member of our fire department, you will be responsible for directing and maintaining proper order and conduct of firefighters to ensure the department meets or exceeds required tactical operations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fire and rescue services, with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible leadership position experience. They will also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with firefighters, fire officers, and other stakeholders.

In this role, you will provide operational support to the Deputy Fire Chiefs, develop and implement strategic fire protection plans, and manage YVR Fire & Rescue operational systems and policies. You will also be responsible for administrative tasks, including data quality assurance, attendance management, and performance reviews.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide operational support to the Deputy Fire Chiefs in the development and implementation of strategic fire protection plans.
  • Manage YVR Fire & Rescue operational systems and policies, including data quality assurance and attendance management.
  • Develop and implement procedures to ensure compliance with CARS regulations, NFPA standards, and the Airport Emergency Plan.
  • Provide relief coverage for the Operations Battalion Chiefs and daily/weekly coverage as the on-call duty chief for policy administration.
  • Assume the Deputy Fire Chief's responsibilities in their absence to ensure compliance with CARS regulations, NFPA standards, and the Airport Emergency Plan.
Key Qualifications
  • NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications - Fire Officer III
  • NFPA 1521, Standard for Fire Department Safety Officer - Incident Safety Officer
  • Incident Command System - Level 300
  • Valid BC Driver's License, Class 3 with air brake endorsement
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible leadership position experience in fire and rescue services
Preferred Qualifications
  • Post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Emergency Management, Fire Service Leadership, or a related field
  • NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications - Fire Officer IV
  • NFPA 1041, Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications - Level II

We offer a competitive salary range of $100,640 to $144,670 per annum, based on a 37.5-hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications, and internal equity. You will also be eligible for an annual bonus target at 15% of your annual salary.
